This spring, endure a chic and comfortable look with a Jumpsuit. A full length or short cut will work just fine, just make sure they don’t hug the body parts to tight! Allow for a free flowing jumpsuit and accent your waist with a belt or tie. You can throw on a pair of pumps for a night out of town or a pair of flat sandals if your on your way to social lunch. Of course we all know flowers bloom in the Spring, but they also bloom on the Springs runway. Floral prints were a major hit for designers during fashion week. So express your love for the season by wearing a floral printed top or dress. Acquire the prints in your basic colors or go wild with flavorful colors such as orange and yellow. Every girl dreams of wearing a hooded dress. Its just a hidden desire that we have and can’t live without. It really does give you a runway look with either way you wear it. Whether short or long in length, the hooded dress will be an awesome addition to the closet. Actually wearing the hood is a choice you would have to make, depending on the occasion to which you are wearing the dress. The craze of the Spring season and the Summer, the over-sized sunglasses. More and more designers have incorporated over-sized sunglasses in their collections, as celebrities and fashionistas have placed them in high demand. Take your pick in style: Aviators or Wayfarers? EYE CANDY: Graphic lines are making a huge fuss this spring as the help to draw attention to your natural eye shape or help to recreate a new one. Simply add faux eyelashes to open your eyelids. Allow for bronzer on the cheek bones, and make sure to use a natural lip color for a nude effect.

NATURAL GLOW: Ready to imitate Goldy Locks on the hair? Try a ceramic curler that will allow for a tight curl without damaging the hair. On the skin use an illumination powder for glow and follow up with a liquid liner, staying very close to the eye.

SMOKIN' HOT: The smokey eye is an industry favorite for the spring. Use soft colors to blend together with your smokey black or grey shadows to create a light weight smokey eye for the spring. For the tresses try the Ceramic flat iron to smooth those tight curls out.

So...Sunday I Watched "The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz"

When I was growing up, the fashion world always appeared to me as this magical far away land, which would bring me self fulfillment and bliss. This world, painted to be so glamorous and luxurious, proved to be driven by creative engines and masterminds, was a place I wanted to call home. Oh... but getting to this far away land would prove to be one of the hardest tasks in my life, and I’m most certain that once there, staying in this land would be even harder. Since I first laid my big brown eyes on this world, via a Vogue magazine on my Aunt’s center table, I have done nothing but work hard to reach this place.

This past Sunday I watched The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and oh how it reminded me of myself and my quest to follow the “Yellow Brick Road” and enter the doors of “Emerald City” (the fashion industry). I believe my quest began at age 13 when I entered one of those national model searches, and I got selected in the first

round… but of course my father thought that my dreams to become a model was idiotic and that I should focus on becoming a doctor or something. Becoming a doctor or anything else of that matter was crazy to me. I loved fashion; dressing up everyday (in what my friends thought was a crazy style), changing my hairstyle everyday, and even knowing how to do make-up by age 15, surely let me know that fashion was my true calling. But how would I make it there?...To this wonderful place that I dreamed of being in every night. As I got older I continued with different model searches and modeling in college fashion shows, I also worked at some of the major fashion department stores/clothing stores to expand on my knowledge of the fashion industry; and I also became a make-up artist at one of the leading cosmetics lines. Now, still on my quest to “Emerald City”, I noticed that I’ve met similar characters as those in the movie, such as Scarecrow, Tin Man, and The Lion. What’s strange is, the characters that I met were all within me! I’ve brought out characteristics on this journey that are very similar to fear, lack of courage, and lack of heart. On this yellow brick road I have submit myself to fear of failing, at some points I lost my heart and love for the industry, and gave up my courage to succeed. But these characteristics never overcame the one characteristic that stand strong within me, natural talent. I know I have the talent to succeed in the fashion industry and once you recognize that, nothing else can stray you away from what you want to become! The Mauve Society has been the best GPS system that God has provided me with to quickly navigate my way to Emerald City…and you know what else?...I have many spare tires in my trunk that will get me there just as fast! …And once I officially enter those gates to “Emerald City”…there’s no going back to Kansas!

You walk outside of your home…You can feel it in the air…Its everywhere you turn… — the holidays are here! That means let the shopping begin! For some, the exercise in trying to gauge just what someone on your list might like best is fun. But for the guys on your list? —Stepping outside the gadget box and finding that genuine gift can be very stressful. So this week, I decided to do all of you a favor. This week's posting is a little lesson in how to buy for those who you care for, and the things he will not only use or like, but things that will make him tingle all the way down to the tips of his toes. The end result? You’ll be appreciated even more.

Do your research. Now I don’t mean go running to the Internet to find the latest, hottest, item on everyone’s top ten list (although that might be helpful). But in this case, it means talk to close friends. The man has a tight circle of insiders. They know what's on his list. They know in what color. They know in what size. Which edition of the Jordans, and what video games he lacks in his collection.
Pay attention. Very rarely do they drag you on extended shopping trips, so when you are out shopping with him, play very close attention to the things that he picks up and categorize them. Listen to the stories he tells you and the interests that he had as a child and try to pick a gift that reflects something of his interest.
Try shopping online. Most men are highly acclimated to the cyber world and get excited about new technologies…and what better way to get the latest gadgets than online? Most online retailers offer the most up-to-date information on different gadgets and tech toys. If he spends a lot of time in his car, a satellite radio subscription and receiver might be a good idea. If he throws a lot of parties a new stereo or surround sound system might be in order. As long as you have good reason — and therefore put sufficient thought — into the gift, you'll be safe in this category.
No gift cards. Not today. Not ever. That thought thing is the reason for my personal ban on gift cards of all sorts. Yes, I know they're failsafe. But these days, when pretty much every supermarket has a rack of gift cards (Home Depot, Starbucks, iTunes, whatever you want, chances are it's there) these little pieces of plastic spell cop-out to me.
Finally, no pouting if they return something. Here's the bottom line: they'd love you to buy them something that they truly love, they could assemble tonight, use tomorrow, and show off to their friends. But if you miss-understand that, they will do their best to give you ample credit for trying. Chalk it up to practice makes perfect. And know that if you need to take back the Cashmere sweater set you spent time and effort picking out, we'll understand. Really. We will.

SO...YESTERDAY I TOOK A BREAK

Yesterday at work I found myself bored, with plenty to do. So I took a break from my tasks and decided to sit in the lobby with the receptionist. She and I usually like to have round table discussions on different topics, but mainly guys and relationships. Now during our conversation my coworker (a guy) came into the lobby and was inquiring about what we were giggling about. I told him we we talking about how guys are picky about females appearances. We told him that some guys could be very particular about the way a female wears their hair, how much make up they wear, and most importantly the way they dress. Now me personally, I love to hear what a man has to say about women and relationships. It gives me a glimpse into the crazy world in which they operate. He started by saying that he had no problem if a "chick" wears hair extensions or not, as long as her hair is nicely kept. Which is a general statement for most men, but what caught my attention is when he continued on by saying how he couldn't stand for a girl that was "too trendy". He shared a story about a past girlfriend that he said, "over dressed on every occasion", and it drove him crazy so he eventually stopped taking her places. He ranted, "I remember one time we were gonna go see a football game and she came dressed in a short mini skirt, a tight shirt, boots, and way too many accessories."

He argued that none of that was really needed to go watch football. He also said that he was into the trends, but that when you overdue it, the outcome could be a catastrophe. I completely agree with my coworker. Being trendy takes a lot of skill and it should be noted to everyone that just because you go into a Gucci store and by out the whole boutique, you can still come out looking like a nightmare! There are ways to incorporate your way of fashion into the trends, without looking like a walking mannequin from a department store. You want to be able to dress appropriately for every different occasion, while still maintaining the trend. For example, if I were going to a basketball/football game with a guy there's nothing wrong with putting on a nice pair of Seven jeans, a crisp white v-neck t-shirt (American Apparel), and some comfortable flat boots (depending on the weather).

Now with this outfit, you've achieved a nice comfortable look that still makes you look sexy, because if you've chosen the correct Seven jeans, they are sure to hug your curves just right; and that v-neck t-shirt will draw attention to the chest area without trying so hard to do so. So ladies, when you are going out on dates, or out with your boyfriend, fit the trend... but make sure the trend doesn't out do you! The guys are watching!!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Imagine the outcome of ushering one of the sexiest rockers to put his touch on one of the hottest hotels on South Beach! Mauve, prepare yourselves for a luxurious travel destination spot that you must visit when next in South Beach, Miami. It has been reported that the highly proclaimed rocker, Lenny Kravitz’s design company, Kravitz Design, Inc. has teamed up with the Morgan’s Hotel Group to design their latest lounge in The Delano hotel. The Miami-based venture has been in existence for about two years and was born out of Kravitz’s love of architecture and interior design. "I was always changing things and moving things around," said Kravitz. "When I started touring 16 years ago, going around the world, I got into architecture."The lounge, entitled, “The Florida Room” is designed to reflect the golden past of Miami Beach’s music history. "I love the musical history of Miami Beach. The Beatles, James Brown and Frank Sinatra all spent time here." To capture that mood, he's creating a speakeasy-style space, tucked underneath the hotel's Blue Door restaurant.

Its no secret to anyone that Lenny Kravitz is a design junkie, he’s been studying architecture for some time know and initially began designing private homes and has now ventured off into the hotel industry. His homes have been featured in numerous publications and television shows, showcasing his plush fur carpets and extravagant art deco pieces, and now he is spearheading The Delano project serving as the creative director. The lounge should be set to open by December 8Th, in time for Art Basel which is practically the Delano's favorite holiday.

6 WAYS TO BOOT UP FOR THE WINTER

The winter is drawing near and the weather is dropping faster than the sun! Its time to boot it up for the winter!!! I will showcase six different style of boots that are hot for the winter. With boots done right, it can be very hard for you to mess up an outfit! Take a look at the different styles:

1. Ankle/Booties- Ankle boots or booties have forced its way onto the runways for the fall/winter seasons. More cover up than a pump and less hassle than a knee-high boot...who could complain? Very comfortable, stylish, and easy to accomodate. Style with a short mini dress or skinny ankle jeans and cruise down the street, in style!

2. Mid-Calf- So you still love to wear skirts in the winter? Then doll up your legs with a sleek pair of Mid-Calf boots that you can show off. Go wild and get a pair with studs or buckles...whichever way you wear them (jeans/skirts) make sure they are seen! These Fendi Platform Boots are by far my favorite for this season! 3. Knee-High- Okay so maybe you're bashfull and hate to show off so much leg. Then get your foot into a nice pair of Knee-high stilleto boots. It gives a great arch to the foot and excercises those calf muscles! If you are still in the mood for bermuda shorts or cropped pants, use a Knee-High boot to create an on-going coverage on the leg. 4. Thigh-High- Are we feeling a little risky?...A little sexy? Then you better get yourself a pair of Thigh-High boots! Only one concern! Please lets make sure they are stylish because you might find yourself with a pair of "hooker" boots! A crisp, black leather, stilleto heel should suit you just right. These are also a great way to keep you warm and sleek at the same time. These Chanel boots were featured on "Andy" in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada". Such a classic boot! 5. Riding- You may be going horseback riding, even foxhunting, or maybe just taking the train to work, whatever the case, every women should have a pair of riding boots in their closet! They are the epitome of a classic boot. Very sheek and whichever way you wear them, preferably with jeans tucked in, you will look like an Equestrian Socialite! 6. Flats- As we all love the glamorous look of stilletos, there are days when comfort screams out at us. Do yourself, and your feet, a favor and grab a pair of cute, comfortable flats for the winter. Wear them with casual dresses and tights, jeans with sweaters, and skirts. Your feet will thank you when the day is over, promise! Now make sure you make your way to the nearest shoe retailer and grab all or some of the different styles of boots for the winter! All aboard!!! The H & M train is speeding through a city near you, and with the world's most renowned designers (much like Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney) you wouldn't believe whose up next to help design some men's and women's clothing for my favorite frugal retailer! Yes Mauve, its true, Roberto Cavalli has jumped on the train and this Italian designer will create a one-off collection for women and men exclusively for H&M! The line will carry the vital touch and the intense sensuality typical of Roberto Cavalli, one of the world's most exciting and creative fashion designers. "Roberto Cavalli has created a world of his own, iconic and full of fantasy, when it comes to colours, prints, and style. There is no place for shyness and no possibility of ending up with a mainstream wardrobe of everyday basics. The Roberto Cavalli collections represents an exuberant, successful lifestyle", says Margareta van den Bosch. "As the first Italian designer in the history of H&M, I enthusiastically welcomed this invitation, proud to bring the lively and positive spirit of my work to a new audience, who will be able to see and interpret my style in an individual way. I love freedom and challenges: breaking down barriers, experimenting in different directions. H&M is all this for me. I will add a dash of festivity and dreams", explains Roberto Cavalli. The "Roberto Cavalli at H&M" collection will be available in approximately 200 selected H&M stores worldwide for a limited period of time starting from November 8th 2007. The line will consist of iconic menswear, 20 pieces, and womenswear, 25 pieces, including lingerie plus matching accessories. Okay Mauve...is anyone else besides me excited about this? I have my Cavalli's strapped up tight and I'm making my way to H&M to grab as much as I can! I am looking forward to what they are going to offer. Can we expect loads of animal print? So...I Was In A Nordstrom Restroom

This past weekend I had to go to Nordstrom with my close friend to help her pick out an outfit for an event (it has actually come to my attention that more and more each day I have become a personal stylist/shopper for some of my friends, which I honestly don't mind doing because as you all know...fashion is my passion! So if anyone is in desperate need of assistance don't be afraid to contact me for help)! This particular trip to Nordstrom was very different for me, very touching, and heart warming and it allowed me to think about myself, my character, and how I present myself on the outside and on the inside. As my friend was trying on shoes, I kindly dismissed myself and told her that I had to use the restroom. When I got to the restroom, the line stretched as far into the women's lounge area! So I stood in line behind this young girl, maybe the age of twelve or thirteen. As we moved our way up through the line there was this huge mirror opposite of us. I turned to it and began to look at this very large, full-length mirror that showed a reflection of everyone waiting in the line. As I was staring at myself, I began to think about all my imperfections. My weight, my hair, everything was being questioned in my mind, and although I am a confident women, I have my moments where I sometimes question the beauty on the outside. As I was staring at the mirror, wondering if there's a special potion I could drink to get rid of my back fat, the young girl turned to me and said, "Hey, you are very pretty!" I was so shocked and I looked to her and said "well young lady, you are very beautiful!" She had the biggest smile filled with shiny braces one could ever dream of having. This young girl had beauty inside and out, and her comment made me forget about all of my imperfections and made me think to embrace them. This young girl may not have been the glamorous, beauty queen, typical thirteen year old; but she was beautiful indeed...for recognizing the beauty in others takes having confidence in oneself. I have worked in the fashion and beauty industries for quite some time, and I have encountered many people with different issues that spend thousands of dollars to buy the things to correct them. But the lessoned learned inside the Nordstrom bathroom was, aside from having all the beauty on the outside...the real beauty always shows brighter from within.

The notable fashion designer, Karen Walker, with a new collection inspired by horseracing, has accounted for many great things. Walker has received rave reviews at New York Fashion Week, a baby due in three months, and a new diffusion range of her ready-to-wear clothing line. Critics declare Walker's more affordable line to be the most eagerly anticipated diffusion offering since Stella McCartney's range for Target in February last year. The new line has been named Hi There, simply because it feels like “a monthly hello rather than two large drops a year” she says. With dresses priced from $250 and equally affordable separates such as jackets and trousers, Hi There is likely to provoke scenes of near-riots, similar to those for the McCartney for Target launch, when it goes on sale in February of next year. (Sidebar: My birthday is in February…can you guess what I want as a gift?!?) Unfortunately this new line will only be available in Myers Department Store in Australia…so for the international K.W. fans, we will have to sit on our hands until she takes it international! Walker says that they may make the Hi There collection available in Karen Walker stores and stockists beyond Australia! But if you are a true fashion guru like me…you will find a way to get your hands on the collection. Walker is planning 12 mini-collections a year, with each month's offerings appropriate to the season. “October may be a small collection of race dresses, July may be all winter knitwear, July may be party dresses, December may be everything you need for the beach,” she says.

My alarm went off around 5:30 am and I rolled over and hit the snooze button. Then twenty minutes later my phone rang, causing me to jump out of my dream. It was my cousin telling me to wake up and start getting ready, she would be leaving in the next 30 to 45 minutes to pick me up for our Saturday trip to New York City. Initially I was excited about our trip, but when I got up I felt so tired and weak that all the enthusiasm left my body. Now, in the front of my mind I know that NYC is the fashion capital; but in the back of my mind I really felt like dressing as comfortable as possible. When I left the house I decided on wearing my D&G skinny jeans, paired with a black and white stripped hooded shirt. I also wore my black, patent leather, t-strap, low-heel wedges; but never fret Mauve…I threw a pair of black flip flops inside my Bulga bag for added comfort! So as we made are way up 295N, my cousin and I were engaged in humorous talks about popular culture from music to fashion, we covered the whole realm of things. We discussed the disastorous “Curt-Curt” (50 Cents) and how he went from wearing bullet proof vests to trying to wear tailored suit jackets and skinny jeans. Horrific! After arriving in New York we spent a couple of hours handling the business that we went up there for and after that was completed, I came across the Alice & Olivia boutique. When we walked in, it was as if we stepped into a scene from Alice in Wonderland. Overly exaggerated furniture, large ceramic mushrooms sprung up from green grass carpets, and opened closets were set around the bright lit store. I began to look through the collection and was very impressed with the pieces they had to offer. Alice & Olivia is the brainchild of Stacy Bendet and was launched in 2002. She started by creating low rise pants which caught the eyes of many celebrities. She now has full contemporary collection line and operates three boutiques. In the store some pieces had much glitz and shine, the look resembled the Hamptons’ princesses and Hollywood starlet staples—bright floaty dresses, flirty tops, short shorts, and low-rise pants galore! After we visited the boutique it was time to pack it up and head home. Now, I’m a person that pays close attention to every detail in my surroundings; so I always notice the smallest things. As we were about to enter the Lincoln tunnel, I noticed one of the hottest billboard campaigns I’ve seen in a while! There was a guy dressed in a sharp tailored suit; but it was the essence of the way the suit was worn that initially caught my attention. Any man can wear a suit…I mean look at “Curt-Curt”, but it is the essence of the man wearing the suit that gives life to it. The billboard was a campaign for Hugo Boss Men and the suits worn were classic but spun a bit of edge. The bold colors of the shirt and tie matched flawlessly with the suit jacket and pant; which brought effervescence to the campaign. Hugo Boss has been a winning leader in providing elegant menswear and women’s wear. New York Fashion Week 2007 has proven to be victorious amongst some of the Men's Ready-To-Wear Lines. The color palettes that were chosen across different designers ranged from bold, bright, neon colors, to warm, soft, and neutral colors. But the reoccuring theme that delivered amongst all?..."Punk Rocker" meets the "Chic Geek". From the likes of Burberry Prorsum, to Dolce & Gabanna, to DSquared...the mens clothing line redefined and merged two genres of character to recreate the soft, studious, edgy, Man. These designers also took it a step further to enhance a man's suit, giving more structure and glitz to the tailoring. "AS FASHION WEEK IN NYC APPROACHES, I REFLECT BACK ON THE TIME DURING THE LATE '80'S AND EARLY '90'S WHEN THEIR WAS A STRONG PRESENCE OF BLACK FACES LIKE NAOMI, TYRA, VERONICA WEBB, ROSHUMBA, IMAN, BEVERLY JOHNSON , JASON OLIVE, TYSON AND SOOOOOO MANY MORE. BACK THEN WE RULED THE RUNWAY. NOW WE ONLY SEE A COUPLE MINORITIES SPRINKLED ABOUT ON THE RUNWAYS AND PAGES OF FASHION MAGAZINES. I WAS SITTING HERE WONDERING WHY DO "COLORED" MODELS GET SO PUMPED UP ABOUT FASHION WEEK WHEN ONLY A SELECT FEW WILL ACTUALLY GET BOOKED FOR A SHOW. Yes...She Also Speaks!!!

Alek Wek, one of the most notable supermodels, is using her voice to speak out about her life as a model. More importantly, she speaks about the crisis that has plagued her birth country Sudan, in her new book entitled, "Alek Wek: From the Streets of the Sudan to the Runways of Milan & New York". Born the seventh of nine children in Wau, Sudan; Alek Wek and her family were thrust into a ruthless civil war that killed nearly 2 million people. The book takes an in depth look into this country's crisis of refugees and the horrors she faced growing up. This is an impeccable story detailing her flee from the war, on foot, and escaping to London only to become the next African American supermodel. "Alek Wek" gives an inside look into the life of a unique supermodel and showcases the rise of a young model to supermodel who was most notable because of her non-European looks.

If you are a die hard fashion fan, I would suggest this book to read because, not only does it give you a glimpse into the fashion world, it also serves as an eye opener by teaching us on the history of the Sudanese conflict, and raises awareness about refugees.

The book is scheduled for release on August 28, 2007 and you can find it at all of your major book retailers.

Alek Wek has been modeling for over 10 years and I believe she, like many others have made a lasting impression on the fashion world. She has a handbag collection, "Wek 1933" and is also an active member of the U.S. Committee for Refugees' Advisory Council.

Just My Thought..."Vintage MCM"

I've actually been seeing many MCM logo bags on ladies' arms lately. I particularly think that this is a fashion don't do. I just think that when this brand was out in its prime it was only worn and highlighted by the ghetto fab. I understand bringing in the old school Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel...but the MCM? I'm not fond of that. To me its just tacky to wear that brand now. Hmm...maybe if it was an MCM bag without the logo, that probably would be more chic and distinguished, but the logo bag...its just tasteless. I get the whole "vintage" thing...but in this case this is a brand that should be left in its coffin!...Just my thought- Kristie Shaw Tampa, FL

When discussing fashion, it seems that what quickly comes across a person's mind is clothing, jewelry, and/or accessories. A corner that is very seldom overlooked in the fashion industry is Lingerie. There are very few fashion designers whose focus is on what lies beneath. Believe it or not...fashion goes way beyond the blouse, skirt, and pumps you decide to wear each day. It is to my knowledge that men go crazy over a women who takes part in matching their bras with their panties :-) But it goes beyond that ladies...it is well known that Victoria Secret is the leading lingerie seller amongst all, but they are indeed a little too commercial. Then there is the ever so "riskay" Frederick's of Hollywood...whose whips and chains may scare many housewives away! If you search and look closely you will find a point between the "too commercial" and the "too riskay", in which fashion is noted as the forefront for lingerie. Yes, my dears...I am talking of the well sought after, fashionable lingerie line, Agent Provocateur. Founded in 1994 by husband and wife duo, Joseph Corre and Serena Rees, this line of edgy, sexy, and couture style "undies" have men drooling after their wives, mistresses, and girlfriends all alike. This duo has managed to deliver "high quality designer lingerie with a creative flair to stimulate, enchant, and arouse both wearers and their partners". They have established a lingerie line where prudence is of no character and seduction is of high magnitude. They have created an environment where taste, sensualism, and fashion intertwine. Africa, a place I like to call home, is making more of a presence in the fashion industry. With the help of different organizations pushing to bring African designers to the center stage...it won't be long until many African designers become mainstream. Everyone... lets give a warm welcome to Runway Africa, an organization created to showcase African designers and place them into the global market. The creators of Runway Africa are "inspired by the urbanity of African textiles, fashions, and designs". They basically provide a "home" to African fashion designers from around the world, and give them a place to reveal their creations. While still standing behind African couture designs, they reach into the lives of others by supporting different non-profit organizations. This year Runway Africa will host their fashion show on September 15, 2007 at the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C. The designers include:

Ruby (South Africa)
Sika (Ghana)
Bezeymailan & Togo (Russian, Vietnam, & French influences)
Blokes N'Divas (Nigeria)
Harriet's Alter Ego (Nigeria)

Their guest/featured model is Miss Universe Ghana, Angela Asare, the 21 year old who won Miss Congeniality at the Miss Universe 2006 competition.

This year they have chose to support "Keep A Child Alive" as their non-profit organization.

"We're Off To See The Wizard..."

For a brief moment you close your eyes. The scene is pitch black. You open your ears to the sound of loud thumps beating against your ear drums; in which brings you to the thought of techno music. Out of the pitch black scene a neon green laser light is reflecting sporadically through the open space...The techno music continues to grind into your ears...and as you open your eyes...you immediately believe that you have warped into another world, where bold, bright colors are infused with mixed prints, leather, and elaborate make-up. You awaken from this fantasy only to realize that you are sitting front row at a Heatherette fashion show. Heatherette is a fashion company and design house, created by Traver Rains and Richie Rich. The development of this futuristic, flirty, and fun clothing company began in late 1999, where they constructed custom made t-shirts on their living room floor. The pair quickly rose to fame when a buyer for Patricia Fields ordered twenty of their signature shirts, on the spot. From that point on there was nothing but good news for Heatherette. As seen on many celebrities that include Gwen Stefani, Mya, Kelis, Pink, Paris Hilton, and Aubrey O'Day, Heatherette has become the epitome of fashion "pop". It is often said that clothes should be a reflection of who you are...and those who wear Heatherette can be classified as people who are unique, life-loving, eccentric, and exude a bright and kooky spirit. There fashion puts you in a psychedelic mind frame...bringing a cartoon-like atmosphere to your wardrobe. Their pieces are fun and playful, and will shine a light on everyones' spirit. Heatherette's Fall 2007 show reflected a deconstructed/reconstructed feel, as they pieced together scenes from the favorable movie, "The Wizard of Oz". They entitled the show, "Over The Rainbow", which in turn gave them much critical acclaim. The clothes showcased bright colors and gave an appeal to those yet to be jaded by reality.

BACK WITH A BANG!!

Today the bang is in, or as the British would like to call it, "the fringe"! Wear it messy and curly or tame and straight. Try a fab short and choppy bang, a long sexy peekaboo, or jump right off the edge with a hip modern asymmetrical cut. Which ever way you choose to wear it...you'll definitely be aboard the "Trend Bus"! This hair look constantly cycles in and out of fashion, and throughout recent hair history bangs have been seen in large numbers on the fashion walkways.

Whether you call it a "fringe" or a "bang", this hairstyle has once again become popular with many of the top supermodels, fashionistas and celebrities, giving reference to the "anything goes" attitude relative in 2004's fashion trends. A basic blunt bang (which I am currently wearing) draws fantastic attention to your eyes. It adds instant drama and works well if you love to crank up your eye makeup. The blunt bang coupled with the right amount of makeup will produce big beautiful eyes. Blunt bangs are usually very flattering for face shapes like some heart shaped and inverted triangular face shapes that feature wide or full foreheads.

Models and celebrities alike are often captured on camera combining wild curly bangs with sleek, slicked back ponytails and braids or stick straight bangs with wild curly hair that flows to their shoulders. Here is a list of different bangs, provided with a brief description, that should be able to work for different face shapes:

Fringe Bangs-This type of bang is just a hint of bangs. They do not completely cover your forehead, just a subtle effect. They work to soften a hair style, draw attention away from high foreheads or other facial features.

Choppy Bangs-This type of bangs is very popular. The hair is very choppy, meaning not a straight or even angled line. Choppy bangs can range between short and long lengths. They are not a full bang, but add visual lines that can help accentuate your facial features.

Straight Bangs-This type of bang is cut straight across the forehead, with no angles whatsoever. It can be cut to medium length bangs and even very short bangs. This type of bang is also great to broaden a narrow face shape.

Long Bangs-- We named these the eyebrow bangs because they are long, full and right at or below the eyebrow. The long bang is sometimes worn very long and practically covers the eyes. This type of bang is sometimes called the Seventies Sexy Bang, and it is best suited for face shapes that are narrow, heart or pear shaped.

In short, bangs is a very smart technique in hiding or accenuatuating certain features of the face. It can be useful in bringing out boldness in the eye or it can be used to conceal a large forehead. Whatever case you want to use it for, you will find that it is a playful yet seductive hairstyle that allows you to show off you womanly facial features. The bang is also a chic & warm hairstyle for the fall, so run to your hairstylist and get the bang for your buck!

Never be afraid to STRIP!!

On my most recent trip to Atlanta, I enjoyed all the wonderful things the city has to offer...and as a past resident of Atlanta I got a taste of some things old...and some things new. I enjoyed shopping, the nightlife...and most importantly...dining. Whenever I travel to different cities, it is very important to enjoy a wonderful dining experience. You know, it kind of makes the city worth its while if you know there are great places to eat and drink! Now, Atlanta is known for its rising entertainment/music industry; but behold members of the Mauve...Atlanta has a kept secret, its dining experiences! There are so many different restaurants that cater to so many different taste, whether it be American to Mediterranean to Thai...it offers everything! So... earlier this month when I was there, my friend and I were torn between which restaurant to dine at for dinner. She mentioned Strip, a steak and sushi restaurant located in the Atlantic Station district. The name caught my ear, and steak and sushi caught my taste buds, so I agreed. We walked up to a three story building illuminated by white and red lights. We walked in on cherry hard wood floors and a very delicate atmosphere...(very different for a steakhouse). They accommodated us with balcony seating that overlooked the city...it was unbelievable.

The menu was filled with much to choose from...a sushi menu/bar ready at your order...and steaks grilled to perfection. I myself had a combination of sushi and steak, their infamous "strip" steak, to be exact. It was marvelous! My dining experience at Strip was one of the best dining experiences to date. The location, the service, the seating, and never the least...the food!

Strip has been open since February of 2006, so it has more over a year of delivering great food service under its belt. Strip Steaks & Sushi is Atlanta's place to be when craving for style and substance. The first level seats as a normal restaurant layout, with large 12 foot windows that overlooks Atlantic Station's Central Park. The middle level – known playfully as the “MEAT MARKET,” has a 20-seat sushi bar with Atlanta’s most talented sushi chefs creating sumptuous delights. ...More Sex and the City to be exact. Yes ladies...(and some gentlemen) the HBO Series Sex and the City is returning, but in a bigger, better, and uncut form. Sex and the City has been officially set to hit the big screen! I myself am so very excited...I mean all the fashion, the glitz, the glamour, the romance, the drama, and but of course, the sex! Whoa, I must say...this shall be one of the most talked about movies to come. The movie, which is being jointly produced by HBO and New Line Cinema, is starting production this fall. The series spawned in 1998 and instantly became the "fashion" show of television. Many designer names were born to the mainstream public by being showcased on the show. The biggest example, in my opinion, was the "birth" of Manolo Blahnik who became the most talked about and sought after shoe designer after "Carrie Bradshaw" was seen walking down the streets of downtown Manhattan in a pair. The show encompassed everything that a woman goes through, whether it was with dating, careers, sex, men, friendships...and oh...did I forget to say, MEN?? I think this movie is a wonderful idea...I am hoping it will set out to answer all of those questions that the show's finale left me to ponder... "Hmmm...I wonder if Carrie and Big ever get married?"

There is definitely a massive audience for Sex and the City, and I believe the movie will do great! All the martini-sipping, the bed-hopping, and show stopping fashion is set to come to a theatre near you, so sit back and relax and get ready for more great SEX!

The first time I set my eyes on him was on a cold winter day in mid January. I was actually at the office, staring at the walls, in a trance, thinking about a new direction in which I should steer my attitude…my fashion attitude, that is. For the winter, I felt that my fashion attitude was very earthy, and moving into the spring I wanted an attitude that showcased spark and intellect. I quickly turned to my computer and began the hunt…the hunt for fashion that depicted intellect, beauty, and sensual style. At the click of a button, a feather fell from the top of the screen, and landed on a title that read, “3.1 Phillip Lim”. I clicked the feather to enter…and in moments I was witnessing some of the most innovative styles within the fashion industry.

Phillip Lim began his career in fashion as the creative director and co-founder of Development clothing line. It was not until 2005 that he launched his signature line, 3.1 Phillip Lim, which greeted him with critical success. Lim’s success continued in 2006, where he was presented with the Fashion Group International’s “Women Designer Rising Star Award”. From the athletic, to the soccer moms, to the fashion gurus; his designs fit the lifestyle for all categories of women. The vision of 3.1 reflects that of a polished look, with sharp cuts and edgy color schemes. When asked about his designs Phillip Lim states that, “3.1 is about clothes that refine women…not define them.” This is one of them main reasons he is the most sought after designer today…his clothes reflect intellect and individualism. I was invited to a trunk show a week ago that showcased 3.1’s Fall 2007 collection. May I be the first to tell you… this line is gloriously constructed to maximize the look of innocence mixed with “pedigree minus prudence”, as Lim would like to describe the line. From prep-schooler to the debutante…Philip Lim drew up his inspiration from many angles, especially from Grey Garden’s Edie Bouvier Beale. There were showcases of prep-schoolers’ bow tie blouses and plaid skirts. Also noticed was a motorcycle-styled jacket with the softest leather known to man…amazing! After completing the collection…I felt as if I had gone back into time…launched into the future…then situated into the present. The quality of his clothing line is immaculate, allowing you to create a runway look that may seem expensive to the eye…but in reality is quite friendly to the wallet. This is another reason 3.1 is well-praised, with the look of the clothing, you would expect to pay those high-end designer prices, but for the same quality and style you get the look for half the price! Hello to the Glitz and the Glam! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. So…I don’t want to keep you waiting, I’ll get right to the feature...and when you finish reading don't forget to check out "The Lust List" at the bottom!

I’ve been checking out many runway styles as well as street styles and I have been noticing a reoccurrence…the boho chic. The boho chic craze (if my memory serves me correct) came about in 2004/2005, when actress Sienna Miller went boho crazy after staring in the movie Alfie. Hard prints, flowing dresses, oversized shirts, wide loose-fitted pants, long wavy hair, and large accessories marked its place in this phase of fashion. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen also were considered ring leaders in placing the “boho chic” look in the forefront of America. This particular look eventually faded itself out of the fashion industry, and went into a bit of a hiatus. Now two or three years later, the “boho chic” returns…but with a new and improved attitude. Now simply termed “Uptown Bohemia” by fashion industry leaders, this look has redefined itself and is being presented in some of the hottest designers latest collections.

One of the most noticeable features of “Uptown Bohemia” is the hard comeback of the high-waist jeans. Many are just now tuning into this “high-waist craze” but believe it or not, this design came back around two years ago when funky designer Karen Walker was leading the pack in designing the high-waist jeans. It was also made very apparent during The Fugees Reunion performance in 2005 at the BET Awards, where Lauryn Hill wore them with a crisp white puff sleeve blouse, and a hot-to-trot big bow. But now in this “Uptown Bohemia” era, Grey Ant is showcasing signature high-waist designs that hit the curves in all the right places. As you already know, the high-waist design are made in skirts, shorts, skinny ankle, as well as wide legged. To keep up with the “UB” market, it is a must that you do the high-waist with the skinny leg. There are many other designers that are contributing to the high-waist look, including Gucci, Anlo, and Superfine.

Another major difference in this version of the “boho-chic” is the addition of metallic. Many designers are choosing to accent their designs with a dash of metallic to give the boho look a more modern feel. Accessorizing with metallics is also strongly suggested with this new look. Large sunglasses, similar to the sunglasses launched in Victoria Beckhams’ new line, are also a great addition to the Uptown Bohemian. The make up for this look consists of a soft, smoky eye with a bit of pearl eye shadow to soften and a nude color lipstick.

On the runways from Blumarine to Alberta Ferretti, the designs of the “Uptown Bohemian” are embroidered with ethnic prints that convey the diversity of modern gypsies. You'll also see crochet and deep V-necks with soft, practical fabrics and antique jewelry - '60s fashions inspired from the streets. It is the new hippie look, just more elegant and refined, of course…Enjoy!

The Eighties Babies

I actually ran across a feature story in "W" Magazine, entitled G-Spot where they did a fantastic spread with the infamous supermodel, Gisele Bundchen. Well...if you are an 80's baby stand up now and sing out loud! The eighties are what we prepare to see this fall! All of the bright and bold colors, the pink lipsticks, and oh...who could forget the big hair?!! The look on Gisele is a perfect look for going into the Fall with the 80's theme. This Miu Miu jacquard jacket is awesome in its "rich and fabulous" pink tone. Wrapped with the Azzedine Alaia belt, allows for accent to the waist line, promoting a curvaceous figure. Anyone should be able to pull off this look...but beware! As seen on Gisele, she has pulled off a wonderful hairdo that doesn't look like she's had a hard day at the laundromat. Please be careful when working with big hair...for tips...please consult with your nearest hair stylist! As for the make-up... if you are going to do bold colors on the eye...please make sure you keep the colors underneath the brow bone...(not the eyebrow, those are two different areas!!) Do lighter colors underneath your eyebrow and keep your bold colors underneath the brow bone...you don't want to look like the clown that used to scare me in my dreams when I was a child! Its seems to me that pink was the flagship color for the 80s...so I would suggest you pick up some of the hottest pink lipsticks and glosses out there! I recommend:

The assertive accessories also had it's stomping ground in the 80's era. If you are going to do accessories, make sure that you follow guidelines. (Although I hate to say "guidelines" b/c there should be no limitations on fashion...but that's another discussion within itself!) Okay so guidelines...Try not to over accessorize if you know you are going to do lots of patterns, colors, etc with your clothes...find a good balance with your clothes and accessories. For example, with Gisele- since she is wearing two different shades of a bold pink color, she relaxed the outfit with a pair of black Givenchy hand gloves and a big black belt (I have to get a pair of those gloves to go with my red leather bomber jacket!). If I wanted to mimic this particular look, I would probably throw on my pair of black and gold Chanel clip on earrings for an extra umph!

I hope you all are as anxious as I am!! Now its time to break into your mom's closet and find all her bold colors, and funky accessories from the 80s...get them cleaned and ready for this Fall...because the 80s are back in style!
